During these Elizabethan style prints, I became more experimental trying dark 1st layers with lighter top layer. I do prefer the other way though. I had difficulty adding colour to the flowers only. When I carved away a large proportion of the Lino block, the areas I didn't want to print were caught by the ink. For example the bottom right design has black all over. I please I stopped adding the 3rd layer These are my favorites from this set. The gradient looks srtiking and the colour choices complimented well.

These prints were made using a tutorial from ms.kaysartworld.weebly.com. They are a Thai Cultural design. This design was easier to carve but harder to print. It was harder to line the print up and because large amount of the design was cut away from the edges, it easily touched the paper where it wasn't supposed to.
Here's a demo of how to lino print for a multilayer Aztec Pattern Here is a selection of the most different experiment results. I'm very pleased with the detail in the pattern after thinking it was so complicated. It was time consuming and I had to be careful to keep the printing block clean but the result was worth it. My favorite pattern colors is the top right because the colors compliment well. I wish I had tried a darker bottom layer, working to light. I feel that my experiments are too similar.
The design will still be hard to carve from the lino block but I'm generally happy with the amount of colour and the variety of shapes in the design. My next step is to trace my design onto the block.
This is made with photoshop again and I've incorporated the arrow. Still the design is too complex because I will have trouble carving it. I should also plan for less colour.
This pattern, I made with Photoshop and think its far more successful because of the freedom photoshop gave me. My favorite feature is the arrows and you can see I achieved the pastel colour scheme I wanted. However, I think it's too complex to make a good print. Something bigger would be better
I made this pattern with my Ipad using an app called Pattern Artist. It's very easy to use but restrictive because there are limited shapes. I do like the textures that it gives but I think my colour choice is dissappointing. Next time I'd like to use pastel colours
This is a research assignment on Aztec Patterns. I've explained, who, where and when the Aztecs were. I've looked at what they do and used that to help explain why Aztec patterns look the way they do. I've also given explained of where we see them today. Aztec patterns will influence my Art work. |
